Steven Spielberg's masterful adaptation of Alice Walker's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel stars Whoppi Goldberg, in her impressive screen debut, as Celie, a sharecropper's daughter living in rural Georgia. The film opens in 1909 when Celie is a young girl, a victim of incest, pregnant with her father's child. Ugly and unloved, separated from her children and her sister, Celie's only option is marriage to an abusive, philandering husband (Danny Glover) who treats her little better than a slave. Her life changes forever when her husband brings his mistress, a beautiful blues singer named Shug (Margaret Avery), into the house. THE COLOR PURPLE was also the film debut for Oprah Winfrey, who beautifully plays Celie's sister-in-law, Sofia. Sean Connery and Michelle Pfieffer ignite the screen in this enchanting adaptation of John Le Carre's suspenseful espionage drama. Connery portrays Barley Blair -- a lonely, middle aged, hard-drinking, London publisher -- who has a love for all things Russian. While in Russia, Barley captures the attention of a daring Russian scientist (Klaus Maria Brandauer), who attempts to send him a top secret manuscript disclosing the secrets of Russian military defense, which, if published in the West could alter the global

Ed Asner stars in the family drama BRING HIM HOME. Young Ricky is a troubled kid whose only friend is his dog Buddy. When Buddy is dognapped by a vicious gang with wicked plans for him, Ricky can only turn to one man, his grandfather Geza Horvath (Asner). But the estranged relationship between the two complicates matters, especially when Ricky is forced into running from the law for a crime he didn`t commit. Now Geza must overcome his desire for peace and problems with his grandson in order to set his family`s affairs right.

Driven to this agonizing extreme more by his big heart than lust, the bigamist strains to keep his double life a secret from the women he truly loves. Curiously non-judgmental, particularly as it`s directed by a woman, Lupino (it`s also the only production in which she directed herself).
