Action master Besson takes on French history in this ambitious look at the legendary saint and martyr. Beginning with a young Joan witnessing her sister's rape and murder at the hands of brutal English soldiers, the film picks up years later when Joan (Jovovich) appears at the court of the French Dauphin (Malkovich), who is making little progress against his enemies. Joan's self-confidence and charisma induce the Dauphin to take a gamble by allowing her to lead troops, resulting in an upset victory at Orleans. However, Joan eventually outlives her usefulness to the French throne and is sold out to the English, who burn her for heresy. All the while, Joan struggles with her faith, exasperating the experienced French generals and having impassioned arguments with her imaginary Conscience (Hoffman). Features several exciting medieval battle scenes.DVD Features:Region 1Keep CaseAnamorphic Widescreen - 2.35:1Single Side - Dual LayerAudio: Dolby Digital 5.1 - English Dolby Digital 2.0 - EnglishAdditional Release Material: Extended International Version with 10 Minutes of Extra Footage Trailers - 1. Set in 1967; Produced and released in 1986.In PLATOON, Oliver Stone draws on his experience as an infantryman in Vietnam to convey the brutality of guerrilla warfare: the heat of the jungle, the brushes with such wildlife as snakes and leeches, and, most powerfully, the presence of the unseen enemy. Charlie Sheen stars as Chris, a raw recruit, or new meat, who serves as the film's narrator. At first he wilts under the rigorous conditions of jungle life, freezes up in a fire fight, and wonders whether he'll be able to survive. But he gradually adapts and, as time goes by, begins to see that the platoon is divided into two groups. One consists of lifers, juicers, and subintelligent whites, the other of blacks and heads. Sgt. Barnes, a combat-loving burnout (Tom Berenger), is the informal leader of the lifers, and Sgt. Elias, a free spirit (Willem Dafoe), leads the latter group. When the platoon takes some gruesome losses, an enraged Barnes kills some Vietnamese and orders the burning of their village, outraging the temporarily absent Elias. As the conflict between these two reaches its tragic climax, Chris must decide what he really values. Widely regarded as one of the finest war films ever made, PLATOON reflects not only the United States' division over Vietnam but the timeless truths of battle: terror, disorientation, exhilaration, and horrible loss.DVD Features:Region 1 EncodingKeep Case

SLEEPING WITH THE ENEMY: Laura (Julia Roberts) and Martin (Patrick Bergen) have the appearance of a perfect marriage, but shortly into the film it becomes apparent that Laura's presence in their opulent home and decadent lifestyle is as decoration and servant. Moreover, Martin is obsessive, anally clean and ruling tyrannically over his wife; she lives in fear of the brutal punishment that descends when the canned goods are imperfectly lined up or the towels hang unevenly. Through an elaborate plan, Laura stages her own death and escapes to start anew in a small Iowa town, where her next door neighbor's efforts at friendship and burgeoning love slowly chip away at her armor of distrust. But just as Laura begins to relax into her new existence, her past resurfaces in a chilling climax.DYING YOUNG: A simple romance that nonetheless carries a great deal of emotional impact, DYING YOUNG tells the story of Hilary O'Neil, an attractive young woman who, upon discovering her live-in boyfriend in bed with another woman, must move out and find a new job. She accepts a position as the in-house caretaker of Victor Geddes (Campbell Scott), a wealthy young man who is suffering from blood cancer. Hilary's first experiences of the aftereffects of chemotherapy leave her in doubt as to whether she can handle the job, but Victor convinces her to stay, as he is beginning to see in her a reason to live. When Victor informs her that his chemo has been successfully completed, they move to a secluded home to start a life together, until cancer once again intrudes. The film is rich in its portrayal of the hardships inflicted by cancer patients and their loved ones, as well as the power of love to lend strength to endure.DVD Features:Region 1Side-by-Side Packaging

Importance of Being Earnest (DVD) Importance of Being Earnest (DVD) » Importance of Being Earnest (DVD)

In his second adaptation of an Oscar Wilde play, writer-director Oliver Parker (AN IDEAL HUSBAND) assembles a peerless cast to engage in this witty comedy of manners and mistaken identity. In 1890s London, rakish Algernon Montcrieff (Rupert Everett, who also starred in HUSBAND) runs into his friend, Jack Worthing (Colin Firth), who is in town to propose marriage to Algy's wildly romantic cousin, Gwendolen (Frances O'Connor). When returning a cigarette case to Jack, Algy reads the inscription, and discovers his friend has two secrets. Jack has created a devilish younger brother/alter ego called Ernest to hide his own misdeeds, and has a beautiful young ward named Cecily (Reese Witherspoon), whom he wants to keep clear of the roguish Algy. While Jack deals with the large obstacle standing between him and Gwendolen--namely, her mother, the imposing Lady Bracknell (a wonderfully imperious Judi Dench)--Algy devises a way to meet Cecily. The confusion and hilarity come to a peak when Algy arrives at Jack's country manor posing as Ernest in order to woo Cecily, and Gwendolen runs away to the country to be with Jack--whom she knows as Ernest. The stellar cast and Wilde's clever words make for genuine entertainment.DVD Features:Region 1Keep CaseAnamorphic Widescreen - 2.35:1Audio: Dolby Digital 5.1 - EnglishAdditional Release Material: Audio Commentary - 1. Ace Barker is a successful boat salesman in a South Carolina fishing town; he is also a foul-mouthed racist with a past peppered with betrayal and sexual indiscretion. When he receives a phone call from an customer ostensibly in the market for a boat, it's not long before his past returns to haunt him; the man soon begins claiming to be his illegitimate son, and obviously holds a grudge against Ace. He launches a campaign to drive Ace crazy, setting up a corn dog stand outside his office so that he can keep tabs on him at all times, and methodically chipping away at the layers of Ace's bigotry and cowardice. Noble Willingham ( Hudsucker Proxy) delivers a staggeringly powerful performance as Ace in this tense, dark comedy of repression and redemption, tolerance and loyalty. As the only actor who speaks onscreen in the film, he actually manages to be a sympathetic character, creating a fascinating portrait of a man both haunted by what is held within his own soul and victimized by an exceptionally cruel tormentor.DVD Features:Region 1Keep CaseFull Frame - 1.33
