In 1840s London, Rosina's beloved father is killed, so she must take a job in order to keep her deeply religious Jewish family afloat. Choosing the new name of Mary Blackchurch, she accepts a job as a governess to a wealthy gentile family in Scotland. Her responsibility is to be the friend and teacher of the Cavendishes' young daughter, Clementina, a mean-spirited, spoiled child. Mary is much more interested in the work being done by Mr. Cavendish as he attempts to perfect an early form of photography. But working closely in the laboratory soon releases feelings that change their very different worlds.Sandra Goldbacher's debut feature film is steeped in religious overtones as Mary-Rosina struggles to maintain--and hide--her Jewish identity. Minnie Driver is excellent as Rosina, her round face almost glowing amid the deep, muted tones of Sarah Greenwood's sets. Tom Wilkinson is superb as Charles Cavendish, trying desperately to hold back his feelings, unable to break free of the repressed society that dominates him. As Charles becomes obsessed with the technical aspects of his work, Mary tries to show him the beauty that his work can create, ultimately leading to an emotional confrontation for which neither is prepared.DVD Features:Region 1 EncodingInteractive MenusTheatrical TrailerScene SelectionsWide& Full Screen Formats

For his adaptation of this classic Shakespeare tragedy, director Franco Zeffirelli (TAMING OF THE SHREW) made the inspired choice of casting teenaged actors in the leads (Olivia Hussey and Leonard Whiting), and their youthful innocence adds an extra dimension of beauty and tragedy to the story. Shot on location in Italy, the film benefits from an earthy sense of realism, a cast of excellent supporting actors, and a memorable soundtrack by Nino Rota. This saga of star-crossed lovers caught in their feuding family's crossfire had strong political resonance at the time of its release, and has lost little of its poignancy.DVD Features:Region 1Keep CaseGenericAnamorphic Widescreen - 1.78Single Side - Dual LayerAudio: Dolby Digital Mono 2.0 - EnglishAdditional Release Material: Trailers - 1. All About Eve (DVD) All About Eve (DVD) » All About Eve (DVD)

Given that she throws tantrums, gets intoxicated, and pushes people away when she needs them the most, it's a wonder New York theater star Margo Channing has any true friends. But when Eve, Margo's young and innocent-seeming protegee, schemes to gain both the affection of Margo's friends and a starring role originally written for Margo, the actress discovers just who is in her corner--and who is not. Released in 1950, ALL ABOUT EVE's power radiates undimmed through the years. The role of aging stage star Margo Channing is considered by many to be the best of Bette Davis's career, as Davis reveals and conceals Margo's vulnerabilities with a skill seldom seen onscreen. Anne Baxter is also marvelous as the subtle Eve, whose glowing enthusiasm masks a cold, calculated ambition. Both actresses garnered Best Actress Oscar nominations, and the film in its entirety took 14 nominations, winning seven of them, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Screenplay. George Sanders was awarded Best Supporting Actor for his biting portrayal of potent, nasty theater critic Addison DeWitt. Consistently listed among the best films of all time, director-writer Joseph L. Mankiewicz's ALL ABOUT EVE shouldn't be missed; the acting, writing, and directing are unequivocally brilliant.DVD Features:Region 1 EncodingKeep CaseTheatrical TrailerInteractive MenusScene Selection
