In 1975, a fifteen year-old girl named Martha Moxley was murdered in Greenwich, Connecticut. The prime suspects, Tommy and Michael Skakel, were nephews of the Kennedy family, causing a nationwide media storm. The case, however, was never solved. In the late 1990's, detective Mark Fuhrman (Christopher Meloni) becomes obsessed with the case, and with the aid of detective Steve Carroll (Robert Forster), finally uncovers the mystery of the murder. When Buck, an immature 27-year-old, is reunited with his best friend, Chuck, a successful music industry executive, his resulting infatuation threatens to ruin Chuck's previously stable existence. This strangely beautiful silent film from D.W. Griffith is also one of his more grim efforts; an indictment of child abuse and the violence of western society. An idealistic Asian (Richard Barthelemess) travels to the west in hopes of spreading the Buddha's message of peace to the round-eyed sons of turmoil and strife. Instead he winds up a disillusioned, opium-smoking shopkeeper in London's squalid Limehouse District. Down the street, a poor waif (Lillian Gish) suffers horrific abuse at the hands of her boxer father (Donald Crisp). When fortune delivers the battered girl into the Asian's tender care, a strange and beautiful love blossoms between them, a love far too fragile to survive their brutal environment. Griffith directed with his unique blend of poetry and realism, and Miss Gish delivers a typically first-rate performance as the girl; the result is a work of art that's both eloquent and crushing. The film was originally presented with color tinting and a musical score composed by Griffith, both of which may vary in different video and film versions.

Two Mexican classics focusing on the plight of the rural, poverty-stricken peasant are collected here: KONGA ROJA and RIO ESCONDIDO. The supervisor of a banana packing plant (Pedro Armendariz) is a target for union oppositionists in KONGA ROJA. While defending the members of the plant`s union, and keeping their goals alive in the workplace, the supervisor is robbed by a band of bad guys. Little does he know that his so-called best friend is one of the culprits. Amidst the office politics and union protest, his life is further complicated by a romance with a singer (Maria Antonieta Pons) at a port tavern.A monumental achievement of the Mexican cinema, RIO ESCONDIDO is notable in a number of respects. It was directed by Emilio Fernandez, historically one of the most important Latin American filmmakers, at the height of his success and popularity. The star is Maria Filix, an actress with iconic status in Mexico, and the villain is played by Carlos Lspez Moctezuma, who won an Ariel (the Mexican equivalent of the Oscar) for his role in the film. The influence of Sergei Eisenstein on Fernandez is manifest in the film, with a story of poverty-stricken villagers being exploited by a cruel governor. Filix plays a teacher sent by the President to investigate the horrible living conditions and corrupt bureaucracies of the countryside. She arrives in Ciudad Juarez, where a greedy thug (Lspez Moctezuma) has seized control of the town and terrorizes its populace. The teacher educates the townspeople in how to defend themselves and battle the villainous mayor. RIO ESCONDIDO is a story of social justice made by some of the giants of Mexican cinema.

GOOD MORNING, VIETNAM - Cronauer (Robin Williams) is a nonconformist with a wicked sense of humor who is transferred from Crete to Saigon. Outrageous and over the top, Cronauer speaks in accents, creates characters, pokes fun at everyone--including the President--and spins banned rock and roll tunes. While his antics amuse the masses, they also put him in hot water with his superior officers, particularly Lt. Steven Hauk (Bruno Kirby), who would prefer that the radio show be censored, sanitized, and completely noncontroversial. Cronauer takes his show outside the radio station when he starts to teach Vietnamese locals English in an effort to meet pretty, demure Trinh (Chintara Sukapatana). He befriends Trinh's brother, Tuan (Tung Thanh Tran), who becomes an unlikely comrade in uncertain times. Directed by Barry Levinson (DINER, AVALON), the film features a tour-de-force performance from Williams, who improvised much of the comedy used in the radio shows, earning an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor.GI JANE - Demi Moore stars as Lieutenant Jordan O'Neil, the first female candidate for the U.S. Navy SEAL unit, a clandestine strike force drawn from the creme de la creme of the combined services--an opportunity provided her by the political maneuvering of Senator Lillian de Haven (Anne Bancroft). To make the grade, Jordan has to survive a grueling selection process in which 60 percent of all candidates wash out. Enigmatic Master Chief John Urgayle (Viggo Mortensen) runs the brutal training program that involves 20-hour days of running, marching, and crawling through obstacle courses under the worst weather conditions while carrying landing rafts--not to mention eating out of a garbage can during breaks. Along with the best of the men, the lean, mean, shaven-headed Jordan handles the punishment, including a bizarrely motivated beating from her drill sergeant.
