Mama (Elizabeth Perkins) is an eccentric single mother of two girls in early 1980's rural Georgia. She shares everything with the girls, who are both entering their teen years, with the exception of one important fact--that she has been carrying on a long-distance relationship with Nick (Scott Bakula), a single man in Long Island, New York. Mama must tell them the truth, however, when she decides to uproot the family and move them to Nick's home.
